Hello Pediatrics After-Hours Care for Medical Emergencies

Beginning December 2025, Hirsch Pediatrics is excited to partner with Hello Pediatrics to provide enhanced after-hours emergency support. Hello Pediatrics will provide nurse triage advice to Hirsch Pediatrics families when the office is closed and direct access to after-hours telehealth appointments with Board-Certified Pediatricians until midnight every day of the year including weekends and holidays!

How do I access emergency after-hours care with Hirsch Pediatrics?

  • When our office is closed, call our main number, 301-990-3030, and follow the prompt to immediately connect with a pediatric nurse at Hello Pediatrics. You do not need to call separate number, leave a message, or wait for a call back!

  • If your child could benefit from an after-hours video appointment, after receiving medical advice from the Hello Pediatrics triage nurse, the nurse will connect you to an in-network, board-certified pediatrician for a video appointment. Video appointments are currently available as follows:

    • Monday-Friday: 5 PM – 12 AM
    • Saturday-Sunday: 12 PM – 12 AM
    • Holidays: 12 PM – 12 AM

  • Hello Pediatrics video appointments will be billed by Hello Pediatrics directly to your insurance company as an in-network, regular office encounter – which is likely far less expensive than an in-person emergency visit to an ER!

Will Hirsch Pediatrics follow-up with me if my child received after-hours triage advice or a video appointment from Hello Pediatrics?

    • Absolutely! To ensure continuity of care we will contact you the next morning if you receive support from Hello Pediatrics whether it is a nurse triage phone call, a video appointment, or a referral to an urgent care/ER.

What if my child does not have a true medical emergency but I need some advice on what to do now?

If you have a concern about your child but it is not a medical emergency please see our website page Hirsch Medical Advice for specific guidance written by Dr. Hirsch on how to manage typical concerns like fever, vomiting, cough/congestion, head injury, and many other topics! Fortunately, most childhood illnesses and injuries can safely be managed at home or wait until the next business day by following our medical advice pages.

Your insurance company may also provide 24/7 Nurse Advice Line support at no additional cost:

  • CareFirst/BCBS: 800-535-9700
  • Aetna: call toll-free number on your Aetna member ID card
  • Cigna: 855- 673-3063
  • UnitedHealthcare (UHC) MyNurseLine: 800-846-4678

Where does Hirsch Pediatrics recommend that I take my child if they need an in-person appointment?

PM Pediatrics is the preferred after-hours care center for Hirsch Pediatrics because it provides the highest standard of pediatric patient-centered after-hours care.

PM Pediatrics website for appointment reservations:

Rockville
Germantown
(Other locations: Columbia, Laurel, Greenbelt, Glen Burnie, Columbia Heights, District Heights)

Note:
For circumstances where your child needs to be seen at a hospital
emergency room (i.e. fever in a newborn, uncontrolled seizures, loss of consciousness, mental health emergency), we recommend the Shady Grove Adventist Hospital (SGAH) Pediatric Emergency Room in Rockville (located about 1 mile from Hirsch Pediatrics). The SGAH ER offers the highest level of ER care with specialty trained pediatric ER physicians.
